The brief
The primary objective of the project was to increase the status and prestige of the bidding process for the two major annual United States Bowling Congress (USBC) championship events in order to secure more cities interested in bidding process, to generate higher host city fees paid to USBC, to motivate cities to provide substantial non-monetary resources and amenities, and, perhaps most importantly, to create deeper emotional ties among the host city, the tournament participants, and USBC.
Our response
To meet the expectations of the USBC, TSE provided services in two phases:
Preparation Phase:
- Branding review of the USBC Open and USBC Women's Championships, with the aim of identifying the most attractive positioning for these two events when approaching potential host cities.
- Assistance in the development of a comprehensive list of potential host cities which have (or will have) the basic technical requirements, including convention centre/event hall square footage and hotel availability.
- Advice on launch of the bidding process, including media strategy and liaison with relevant national sports media.
Bidding Phase:
- Review ways in which USBC has promoted community involvement, including past efforts with Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and other charitable institutions.
- Work collaboratively with bid cities to identify appropriate opportunities that establish more meaningful ties between bowlers and the host city, including but not limited to, voluntary service with local non-profit organisations. The intent will be to help participating bowlers truly feel special.
- Work creatively with bid cities to identify appropriate opportunities that establish more meaningful ties between the USBC and the host city, including, but not limited to, efforts to motivate more awareness of bowling as a competitive sport and leisure activity among non-bowlers in the community.
