Legends don't lie

The recent documents coming from the United States Doping Agency leave little doubt that Lance Armstrong was a cheater. Yet, there are still vocal supporters who are defending his position as a sporting legend. How can someone who lied and cheated be considered a legend?

Lance Armstrong has done a lot of good through his foundation. He used his position as a sporting legend to raise money and give back to society and for this he should be thanked and commended. But, when it comes to his position as a sporting legend, he lied. He cheated. When crimes are committed in other parts of society they are not justified nor are the criminals supported, so why should such a justification be made in sport?

Armstrong could be a legend for the sport if he stood tall and admitted to what was done in the past. If he broke the code of silence to uncover the truth of what was happening behind the scenes in an effort to improve the sport of cycling and provide a brighter future for healthy athletes and clean sport, for example. As long as he continues to keep silent, however, not only should he no longer be considered a legend for the sport, but his position as a moral upstanding citizen is also in question.

As Armstrong continues to promote Live Strong, hopefully he will also start to stand strong - face up to the consequences of his actions and although he will no longer be a legend for his results in cycling, he could become a legend for changing the sport for the good.

This is tragic. The sport\'s credibility is tainted and of course, Armstrong himself as a highly decorated athlete. However, I believe Armstrong\'s war on cancer has to separated from this debacle....

Lance is a liar and a criminal. He\'s definitely no longer a role model... as many claimed him to be, but the reality is that sport is full of bad-boys (or...
