Increasing the representation of women in sport leadership positions has been on the agenda for international sports organisations now for many years. With newly funded initiatives, an array of conferences and newly set quota systems, the number of women in sport leadership positions has certainly increased and will certainly continue to do so in the future.

Such focused dedication to an issue shows that progress and change can happen - so as the women in sport agenda further advances, it is perhaps time to move a new agenda forward. An issue that is rampant in the world of sport but one that is rarely discussed. Age.

In the world of business and politics age has become a prominent issue. Developing leadership talent, no matter what the gender, that is young, ambitious and eager to tackle the new challenges faced by this generation, has been the growing focus. And this is an area that sport has yet to tackle.

There are many battles to fight and various areas that need focused attention to progress. With the positive outcomes we have seen throught the women in sport agenda perhaps it is time to focus on the elephant in the room and take a dip in the fountain of youth.
