Most of the sports activities are using the nature as playgrounds or have a direct impact on the environment. It's the full responsibility of the sport organizations to guarantee that the natural resources they are taking possession of are properly protected.

Does sport have a responsibility to protect the environment? Does anything that depends on the environment for it's existence not have a responsibility to protect and increase it's health?

It'd be kinda stupid not to.
But hey, that's just ecology speaking.

It is not necessarily the responsibility of sport to protect the environment, but rather a smart business move. With the exception of possibly the U.S., the government provides the majority of funding for major sporting events. If the government is becoming increasingly environmentally-conscious, then it is only advantageous for sport to follow suit.

Everyone should share the responsibility of protecting the environment, not just Sport. Government sectors, public organisations, sports and each of us as individuals should lead the push for a cleaner and greener world. It is our duty as citizens of the world to set the example in protecting the environment for the future of generations to come!
