The Danish team, composed of representatives from the Danish Swimming Federation, City of Copenhagen and the Danish Government presented their plans for hosting the event last Friday at the European Swimming Federation’s (LEN) General Assembly in Vienna, Austria. After a convincing presentation, the bid from Copenhagen, Denmark was awarded the right to host the 2017 European Swimming Championships.
Pia Holmen, General Secretary, Danish Swimming said, “Hosting the European Swimming Championships in our capital city of Copenhagen is exciting. The idea that we can offer our swimmers and all of Denmark an international event at home is a huge opportunity that will ensure the further growth and development of swimming on all levels.”
LEN President Paolo Barelli praised the Danish bid saying, “Copenhagen is not just a beautiful city and a capital of a magnificent country, but has also become the capital of sport by staging a handful of great events in succession. LEN is really happy to be part of these series and even more proud that our continental showcase will be the first sport meet held in the brand new Royal Arena. We have to be grateful for the great efforts of the Danish Swimming Federation and Sport Event Denmark, we know we are going to work with dedicated professionals.”
Lars Haue-Pedersen, Managing Director, TSE Consulting added, “This is a well-deserved win for Danish Swimming. The team has worked hard to bring the European Swimming Championships to Copenhagen and it is wonderful to see all their hard work pay off.”
