On Saturday, July 18th in Rome, the City of Dubai (UAE) was awarded the
right to host the 15th FINA World Championships in 2013. The other
bidders for the event were the cities of Hamburg (GER) and Moscow (RUS).
Following a presentation to the Bureau Members of the International
Swimming Federation (FINA) Dubai was elected with a large majority of
votes (14 out of 20).
Dubai's bid was developed and run by TSE Consulting. TSE's involvement
focused on the development of the bid's technical aspects (bid book) as
well as on the creation of a campaign strategy including the bid's
positioning compared to its competitors and the development of key
messages.
Greg Curchod, director of TSE Consulting, Switzerland:
"It is important, when developing a campaign for an international
sporting event, to consider the international federation's current
concerns for the development of its sport. Also, it is crucial to take
a close look at the competition in order to develop a bid strategy that
can build a truly unique proposal to the voting members. We are very
happy to have been able to achieve this in our collaboration with the
UAE Swimming Association and to have helped them win this bid."
Mr Ahmed Al Falasi, President of UAE Swimming:
"The UAE is still a small swimming nation, but the recent efforts
engaged by our Association has reassured the voting members of FINA
that Aquatic sports have a great potential for growth in the region.
TSE was instrumental in helping us shape this message and convey it in
a way that was both innovative and appealing."
