The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), South Africa, with the assistance of TSE
Consulting, activated public viewing areas during the FIFA
Confederations Cup held 14 -28 June, 2009. The CoE was not one of the
four South African host cities, but none the less it seized the
opportunity to reach out to a broad regional audience.
The CoE, with the assistance of TSE, seeks to reposition the city from
merely being a gateway for international travellers (the major
international airport is located in the CoE) to being a welcoming host
for major events.
Serving as a test event for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, TSE Consulting had
the task of conceptualising and planning the public viewing events as
well as gathering information that will benefit the CoE with planning
future events and maximising the effectiveness of the public viewings
as an alternative to going to the stadiums.
Victor Radebe, Director, TSE Consulting South Africa, said:
"This was the first time that South Africa tested this concept and the
City of Ekurhuleni now has the required knowledge and infrastructure in
place in the lead up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. TSE was pleased to be
chosen to assist with the conceptual development and implementation of
the project and we look forward to further developing the plans for
2010."
In follow up to the events during the Confederations Cup, TSE will
provide an evaluation with recommendations on how to increase the
impact of the activities planned for the World Cup 2010.
