How to customise your presentation
Sports managers will often show the same presentations several times to
different audiences. There is often no time to design a new presentation
every time but never make your presentation an "evergreen". Instead you
must create the illusion of first time, every time! You must adjust
your script and you can consider this handful of hints with regards to
customising your visuals.
Hint no.1: Customise the opening slide
This is the easy one. Most (but not all!)
speakers remember to include place and date of the actual presentation
in the opening slide, but try to go a little further and maybe also
adjust the title or subtitle of your (standard) presentation for the
audience that you are presenting to.
Hint no.2: Include logo for the audience's organisation in the slide master
A very
easy way to show respect for the organisation that you are presenting to
and to tell them that this is prepared for them. Most organisations and
companies are very proud of their logo - so let them see it as part of
your presentation. You can place it in the upper right corner of your
slide master and include your own logo in the (bottom) left corner.
Hint no.3: Include photos relevant to the audience
Don't show basketball photos
when you are presenting to football people, don't show photos of
television cameras when you are presenting to reporters from the written
media, don't show photos only of Europeans when you are presenting in
Asia, etc. Using photos is a way to make your audience emotionally
involved and the more tailored that you make the photos, the more your
audience will be involved in your presentation.
Hint no.4: Include examples relevant to the audience
It takes quite some time for
you to design your basic presentation but it takes little time to change
the examples that you want to include to illustrate and argue for your
points. Examples must be relevant to the specific audience in order to
support your arguments and tailored examples are a strong way to show
that you have prepared yourself for this presentation.
Hint no.5: Update it right up until the last minute
Nothing will make your
presentation look more customised than including quotes, photos or
examples from yesterday or even today. Search for relevant news items
right up till the last minute and include them in the slides that you
show. If your handouts do not include the same last minute elements is
not that important.
